How To Make Self Destructing Email

Electronic records lasts for like ever. Many times after sending a email you might have thought that you might not have send that mail. If you want it to never happen again you should definitely read this post .In the current e-mail system once the message has been send sender has no control over it. Receiver may duplicate your Email data, forward it and other things. If you want to protect this things and want control over your send Email’s you are reading the right post.

Self-destructing email are an electronic mail that vanishes or becomes unreadable after a certain length of time or sender can destruct the send email whenever he wants. They also help prevent printing, copying, forwarding, and saving of the sent email. There best feature is auto expire after a predefined interval.

You can also use these emails for tracking purposes i.e Self Destructing Email also let you know when was your email opened etc

How Do these Emails works?
These Email works in numerous ways. Most common methods by which these emails work are :

1.BY providing message recipients one-time access to a secure Web page that contains your message.Recipients get an email containing a link to secure webpage and direct readers to the page with the message, which is accessible only once. After that, the message is deleted.

2.The way most of these emails seem to work is by replacing the plain text of your email with a graphic image of the text, which is stored at the Web site’s server rather than in the email message itself. The original message just contains a link to this image. So user can view the image only and sender can delete the image whenever he wants

Online Sites which provide these services:

There are numerous sites which provide such services. Some of the popular sites are :

Best Google Search Tricks and Tips

When it comes to the Google search box, you already know the tricks: finding exact phrases matches using quotes like "so say we all" or searching a single site using site:wikipedia.com gmail. But there are many more oblique, clever, and lesser-known search recipes and operators that work from that unassuming little input box. Dozens of Google search guides detail the tips you already know, but today we're skipping the obvious and highlighting our favorite obscure Google web search tricks.

10. Get the local time anywhere

What time is it in Bangkok right now? Ask Google. Enter simply what time is it to get the local time in big cities around the world, or add the locale at the end of your query, like what time is it hong kong to get the local time there.
9. Track flight status

Enter the airline and flight number into the Google search box and get back the arrival and departure times right inside Google's search results.
8. Convert currency, metrics, bytes, and more

Google's powerful built-in converter calculator can help you out whether you're cooking dinner, traveling abroad, or building a PC. Find out how many teaspoons are in a quarter cup (quarter cup in teaspoons) or how many seconds there are in a year (seconds in a year) or how many euros there are to five dollars (5 USD in Euro). For the geekier set, bits in kilobytes (155473 bytes in kilobytes) and numbers in hex or binary (19 in binary) are also pretty useful.
7. Compare items with "better than" and find similar items with "reminds me of"

Reader abhishek taps the wisdom of the crowds by searching for like items using key phrases. He writes in:
Simply search for, in quotes: "better than _keyword_"

Some example results:

Results 1 - 100 of about 550 English pages for " better than WinAmp".

Results 1 - 57 of 57 English pages for " better than mIRC".

Results 1 - 100 of about 17,500 English pages for " better than Digg". (Wow. Poor Digg.)

The results will almost always lead you to discovering alternatives to whatever it is you're searching for. Using the same concept, you can use this trick to discover new music or movies. For example, " reminds me of _someband_" or "sounds like _someband_" will pull up artists people have thought sounded similar to the one you typed in. This is also a great way to find good, no-name musicians you'd probably never know of otherwise.

Examples:

Results 1 - 88 of 88 English pages for " reminds me of Metallica".

Results 1 - 36 of 36 English pages for " similar to Garden State".

Results 1 - 66 of 66 English pages for " sounds like The Shins".

Just get creative and you'll, without a doubt, find cool new stuff you probably never knew existed.
6. Use Google as a free proxy

What, your company blocks that hip new web site just because it drops the F bomb occasionally? Use Google's cache to take a peek even when the originating site's being blocked, with cache:example.com.
5. Remove affiliate links from product searches When you're sick of seeing duplicate product search results from the likes of eBay, Bizrate, Pricerunner, and Shopping.com, clear 'em out by stacking up the -site:ebay.com -site:bizrate.com -site:shopping.com operator. Alternately, check out Give Me Back My Google (original post), a service that does all that known reseller cleaning up for you when you search for products. Compare this GMBMG search for a Cruzer 1GB flash drive to the regular Google results.
4. Find related terms and documents Ok, this one's direct from any straight-up advanced search operator cheat sheet, but it's still one of the lesser-used tricks in the book. Adding a tilde (~) to a search term will return related terms. For example, Googling ~nutrition returns results with the words nutrition, food, and health in them.
3. Find music and comic books Using a combination of advanced search operators that specify music files available in an Apache directory listing, you can turn Google into your personal Napster. Go ahead, try this search for Nirvana tracks: -inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:"index of" +"last modified" +"parent directory" +description +size +(wma|mp3) "Nirvana". (Sub out Nirvana for the band you're interested in; use this one in conjunction with number 7 to find new music, too.) The same type of search recipe can find comic books as well.
2. ID people, objects, and foreign language words and phrases with Google Image Search

Google Image search results show you instead of tell you about a word. Don't know what jicama looks like? Not sure if the person named "Priti" who you're emailing with is a woman or a man? Spanish rusty and you forgot what "corazon" is? Pop your term into Google Image Search (or type image jicama into the regular search box) to see what your term's about.

1. Make Google recognize faces

If you're doing an image search for Paris Hilton and don't want any of the French city, a special URL parameter in Google's Image search will do the trick. Add &imgtype=face to the end of your image search to just get images of faces, without any inanimate objects. Try it out with a search for rose (which returns many photos of flowers) versus rose with the face parameter.

Clever Google Tricks Worth Knowing

Below I have compiled a list of 7 clever Google tricks that I believe everyone should be aware of. Together I think they represent the apex of the grand possibilities associated with Google search manipulation tricks and hacks. Although there are many others out there, these 7 tricks are my all-time favorite. Enjoy yourself.

1. Find the Face Behind the Result – This is a neat trick you can use on a Google Image search to filter the search results so that they include only images of people. How is this useful? Well, it could come in handy if you are looking for images of the prominent people behind popular products, companies, or geographic locations. You can perform this search by appending the code &imgtype=face to the end of the URL address after you perform a standard Google Image search.
Examples (notice the differences in each URL):
Image Search for Google vs. Faces Behind Google Image Search
Image Search for Digg vs. Faces Behind Digg Image Search
Image Search for California vs. Faces Behind California Image Search
More info.

2. Google + Social Media Sites = Quality Free Stuff – If you are on the hunt for free desktop wallpaper, stock images, Wordpress templates or the like, using Google to search your favorite social media sites is your best bet. The word “free” in any standard search query immediately attracts spam. Why wade through potential spam in standard search results when numerous social media sites have an active community of users who have already ranked and reviewed the specific free items that interest you. All you have to do is direct Google to search through each of these individual social media sites, and bingo… you find quality content ranked by hundreds of other people.
Examples:
site:digg.com free “desktop wallpaper”
site:reddit.com free “wordpress templates”
site:del.icio.us free “stock images”
site:netscape.com free “ringtones”
site:stumbleupon.com free icons
More info.

3. Find Free Anonymous Web Proxies – A free anonymous web proxy site allows any web browser to access other third-party websites by channeling the browser’s connection through the proxy. The web proxy basically acts as a middleman between your web browser and the third-party website you are visiting. Why would you want to do this? There are two common reasons:
You’re connecting to a public network at a coffee shop or internet café and you want privacy while you browse the web. You don’t want the admin to know every site you visit.
You want to bypass a web content filter or perhaps a server-side ban on your IP address. Content filtering is common practice on college campus networks. This trick will usually bypass those restrictions.

There are subscription services and applications available such as TOR and paid VPN servers that do the same thing. However, this trick is free and easy to access from anywhere via Google. All you have to do is look through the search results returned by the queries below, find a proxy that works, and enter in the URL of the site you want to browse anonymously.
Examples:
inurl:”nph-proxy.cgi” “start using cgiproxy”
inurl:”nph-proxy.cgi” “Start browsing through this CGI-based proxy”
More info.

4. Google for Music, Videos, and Ebooks - Google can be used to conduct a search for almost any file type, including Mp3s, PDFs, and videos. Open web directories are one of the easiest places to quickly find an endless quantity of freely downloadable files. This is an oldie, but it’s a goodie! Why thousands of webmasters incessantly fail to secure their web severs will continue to boggle our minds.
Examples:
Find Music: -inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(wma|mp3) “Counting Crows”
Find Videos: -inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(mpg|wmv) “chapelle”
Find Ebooks: -inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(pdf|doc) “george orwell 1984″
More info.

5. Browse Open Webcams Worldwide – Take a randomized streaming video tour of the world by searching Google for live open access video webcams. This may not be the most productive Google trick ever, but it sure is fun! (Note: you may be prompted to install an ActiveX control or the Java runtime environment which allows your browser to view certain video stream formats.)
Examples:
Axis Webcams: inurl:/view.shtml or inurl:view/index.shtml
Cannon Webcams: sample/LvAppl/
MOBOTIX Webcams: control/userimage.html
FlexWatch Webcams: /app/idxas.html
JVC Webcams: intitle: intitle:”V.Networks [Motion Picture(Java)]”
More info. - More info.

6. Judge a Site by its Image – Find out what a site is all about by looking at a random selection of the images hosted on its web pages. Even if you are somewhat familiar with the target site’s content, this can be an entertaining little exercise. You will almost surely find something you didn’t expect to see. All you have to do is use Google’s site: operator to target a domain in an image search.
Examples:
Digg in Images
Wired in Images
Reddit in Images
More info.

7. Results Based on Third-Party Opinion - Sometimes you can get a better idea of the content located within a website by reading how other websites refer to that site’s content. The allinanchor: Google search operator can save you large quantities of time when a normal textual based search query fails to fetch the information you desire. It conducts a search based on keywords used strictly in the anchor text, or linking text, of third party sites that link to the web pages returned by the search query. In other words, this operator filters your search results in a way such that Google ignores the title and content of the returned web pages, but instead bases the search relevance on the keywords that other sites use to reference the results. It can add a whole new dimension of variety to your search results.
Examples (notice the added variety between search results):
allinanchor:”google hacks” vs. basic search for Google hacks
allinanchor:”wordpress exploits” vs. basic search for Wordpress exploits
More info.

Bonus Material:

Here is a list of my favorite Google advanced search operators, operator combinations, and related uses:
link:URL = lists other pages that link to the URL.
related:URL = lists other pages that are related to the URL.
site:domain.com “search term = restricts search results to the given domain.
allinurl:WORDS = shows only pages with all search terms in the url.
inurl:WORD = like allinurl: but filters the URL based on the first term only.
allintitle:WORD = shows only results with terms in title.
intitle:WORD = similar to allintitle, but only for the next word.
cache:URL = will show the Google cached version of the URL.
info:URL = will show a page containing links to related searches, backlinks, and pages containing the url. This is the same as typing the url into the search box.
filetype:SOMEFILETYPE = will restrict searches to that filetype
-filetype:SOMEFILETYPE = will remove that file type from the search.
site:www.somesite.net “+www.somesite.net” = shows you how many pages of your site are indexed by google
allintext: = searches only within text of pages, but not in the links or page title
allinlinks: = searches only within links, not text or title
WordA OR WordB = search for either the word A or B
“Word” OR “Phrase” = search exact word or phrase
WordA -WordB = find word A but filter results that include word B
WordA +WordB = results much contain both Word A and Word B
~WORD = looks up the word and its synonyms
~WORD -WORD = looks up only the synonyms to the word

To Search for Online Music
There is an absolutely great way to search for music on the net. use Google query:

intitle:index.of (mp3|wma|aac) <<Dot seperated name of song/track/composer/artist>>

Stupid Keyboard Tricks

  • Contribute
  • Compare Databases with SQL Effects Clarity
  • Many people don't realize that using the keyboard will make you a ton more productive than using a mouse to achieve the same goals. This is particularly true for the Visual Basic IDE. And even though most of the keyboard shortcuts are described in the help file, I see programmer after programmer using the mouse to do the keyboard's job. All these shortcuts apply to VB6. However, most of them will also work with VB5 and some will go even lower. So without further delay, here is your guide to being more productive. Later, check out the section on how to discover your own shortcuts.
  • When typing code, use the Code Completion feature. For instance, consider the following code:
  • Dim strEmployeeName as String
  • Dim lngEmployeeID as Long
  • When typing strEmployeeName you can save yourself a couple of seconds by typing strE and then pressing Ctrl-Space to signal Visual Basic to complete your variable. That is right, VB will append mployeeName to strE, to complete strEmployeeName . Pretty nifty, ha? The reason this happens is because VB keeps all the variables, functions, subs, methods, etc... in memory and can pop them up whenever necessary. If you get into the habit of using this feature, you'll shave off hours from you development time just in a single week.
  • If Visual Basic finds more than one match to what you typed, it will display a popup list for you to choose from. This is handy with long object names that have large object hierarchies. For instance, instead of typing in strE we typed str. Obviously there are tons of functions that match str. So VB drops down a box that lets you select. Eventually you will get into a habit of creating drop-down friendly variables (so that there are less items in the dropdown) and that will speed up the coding even further.
  • Here is really cool one pointed out by HENRI VAN DER WESTHUIZEN (199206260@upe.ac.za) of South Africa. While in the Properties screen, just type CTRL-SHIFT and the first letter of the property and you will go straight to it. A lot easier that scrolling through all of then to get to the bottom one.
  • Below is a whole slew of keyboard tricks contributed by a fellow keyboard jockey Greg Heslington. I have to admit, some of them caught me by surprise. Furthermore, Greg provided us with an excellent Excel spreadsheet listing various the VB shortcuts in a template manner, a la those WordPerfect 5.1 paper templates that were placed on the F keys. Anyway, without further delay, here are Greg's tricks:
  • Code Window Shortcuts
  • Ctrl+F2 (5 star tip) - moves focus to the "Object" combo-box above the Code window. ...from here you can select the procedure you're editing by using DownArrow to drop-down the combo-box's list of objects. Press the first letterof the object name, or UpArrow/DownArrow/Home/End to navigate through the list. Home is good for selecting the (General) section, where non-event-code procedures live. Then, press Tab to toggle between the "Object" and "Procedure" combo-boxes and navigate similarly. Press Return to selectone, and you'll be back in the Code window at the correct position.
  • Ctrl+Shift+F2 - I mentioned this one before. Greg adds that it works without first pressing Shift+F2, as it cycles through the last 8 positions visited, not just where you were before you viewed the definition of a variable.
  • F3 - find the next occurrence of text last searched for
  • Shift+F3 - find the previous occurrence of text last searched for
  • Ctrl+F3 - find the next occurrence of selected text, or the word under the cursor
  • Ctrl+Shift+F3 - find the previous occurrence of selected text, or the word under the cursor
  • The general rule-of-thumb for the previous four is as follows: "Press shift to search backwards; press ctrl to start searching for something different".
  • F6 - (when the Code window is split into two panes) - toggles between the panes. To split the panes first (or indeed un-split afterwards), press alt+W, P.
  • Ctrl+Shift+F9 - clear all breakpoints
  • Tab (when a block is selected) - indent the whole block
  • Shift+Tab (when a block is selected) - un-indent the whole block
  • Ctrl+Z - undo the last change. The last 20 changes can be backed out of.
  • Ctrl+I - show the quick-info tooltip. Tells you the type of variable,or value of a constant, at the cursor.
  • Ctrl+Shift+I - show the parameter-info tooltip. Tells you the parameters required in a function or sub call, without having to insert a spurious comma and delete it! (which you can't do anyway in modules that are marked as read-only).
  • Ctrl+G - show the Immediate window.
  • Ctrl+F - show the Find dialog
  • Ctrl+H - show the Replace dialog
  • ...within Find and Replace dialogs, the highlighted text (or the word underthe cursor is automatically placed in the Find What field). Press Return to Find Next, Esc to close the dialog, or alt+letter to focus and/or toggle onthe other controls [duh...?]
  • Ctrl+Y - remove the current line without having to select it. This one was contributed by Joacim Andersson.
  • Object window shortcuts (i.e. the forms)
  • Shift+F4 - show the custom property pages for the selected object
  • Arrow keys - UpArrow/DownArrow/LeftArrow/RightArrow
  • Select a different control on the container.
  • With Shift pressed, enlarge/shrink the selected control(s).
  • With Ctrl pressed, move the selected control(s) around the container.
  • Tab or Shift-Tab - select the next/previous control in the tab order
  • Project Explorer window
  • Tab - switch between projects in a group
  • Down Arrow - move down the tree
  • Up Arrow - move up the tree
  • Right Arrow - expand a folder, or go to the first child node
  • Left Arrow - collapse (if a folder) and go to the parent node
  • Numeric Plus - expand the folder
  • Numeric Minus - collapse the folder
  • Property window
  • Tab or Shift+Tab - cycle forwards/backwards through the control drop-down, the tabs, the property name, and the property value. This method can be useful for changing (or just reviewing) several control's properties, eg the TabIndexes (TabIndices? :-). Useful if certain controls are on hidden areas of the form (eg on different tabs of your form) andyou don't want to hunt them down and click (ugh!) on them.
  • The "Categorized" tab in Properties is dead useful for hiding the other properties if you're reviewing the sizes of your controls. Just click on all the minus signs except for the one next to the "Position" category. Did I say click?! I meant Tab to a property category, press LeftArrow to collapse it, then press DownArrow to move down to the next property category.
  • Break Mode
  • Shift+F5 - re-run from the start (surely not that useful?)
  • F8 - step into the current statement
  • Shift+F8 - step over the current statement
  • Ctrl+F8 - run upto the statement under the flashing cursor
  • Ctrl+Shift+F8 - run the rest of the current procedure and break againwhen exiting back to the calling statement
  • F8 based shortcuts can also be used from design mode, to start the project and immediately single-step through the code, but I can imagine that stepping through the start-up code of a big project would be very tedious. In fact I bet you'd get a misleading impression of the program flow, because break mode tends to suppress certain events from firing.
  • Ctrl+F9 - set the statement under the flashing cursor as the next one to execute.
  • Ctrl+L - view (and navigate) the call stack
  • Miscallaneous
  • Ctrl+F4 - close the current child window (as per bog-standard Windows)
  • Ctrl+F6 or Ctrl+Tab (or with Shift) - cycle forwards/backwards through the Code windows and Object windows
  • Shift+F7 - go to the Object window. This is the complement of F7 whichyou mentioned.
  • You want to make more space for the Code window while programming? Hiding the Project Explorer, Properties and Immediate windows is easy:- Ctrl+R, menu, H to hide the Project Explorer window, F4, menu, H to hide the Properties window, Ctrl+G, menu, H to hide the Immediate window.
  • Here are 2 really shortcuts courtesy of Dean Hutchings:
  • Assuming you have "Break On All Errors" selected, you can do the following:
  • Alt+F5 - continue past error dialog
  • Alt+F8 - step past error dialog
  • These are great if you want to be sure to see all errors but don't want to mess around with toggling the error trapping settings.
  • Not necessarily a keyboard shortcut for VB so much as Windows in general; any ListView (Explorer folders included) which is in report (ie, details) view can have its column widths auto-resized by pressing Ctrl+NumericPlus.
  • All I can say is: Thank you, Greg. These are surely to improve coding speed. In addition, Greg provided some stupid mouse tricks as well, which will be included in an upcoming article.
  • There are many more simple keyboard shortcuts that for some reason are seldom used by programmers. Below are some of them:
  • Place the cursor on a function name, then press Shift-F2 combination and it will take you to that function.
  • Press Ctrl-Shift-F2 and it will take you back. These two combos have been there since the dawn of VB.
  • Have you ever lost the Project Explorer window? Press Ctrl-R to bring it to life.
  • Do a quick save before running. Press Ctrl-S.
  • Never select Start button. Always do a Start With Full Compile. Either press Ctrl-F5 or hold down the Ctrl key while pressing the Start button. (Or as some of my less than competent co-workers call it: The 'Play' button).
  • Want to do a quick comment/uncomment of your code? See this tip.
  • Do you want to quickly see the value of a variable? Place a cursor on the variable and press Shift-F9.
  • To toggle a breakpoint, use F9.
  • Ctrl-A will select all the code in the Code Window. BTW, if you didn't know this one, please pack up your copy of VB and return it to the store for a full refund. You don't deserve to be a programmer.
  • Are you sick and tired of going to the Project menu and selecting Components? Simply press Ctrl-T.
  • To bring up properties for any object in VB, press F4. To bring up code, press F7 on any object.

403 Forbidden Again - And Again

Recently, a few bloggers have seen the return of an old favourite (not)
Google Error

We're sorry...

... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.

The general thought is that Google just changed some settings, and they need to change them back. Now.

In reality, the situation isn't nearly so simple.

The problem doesn't just involve settings. Hackers are increasingly inventive, so Google servers do behaviour and signature analysis of all incoming network traffic. As the hackers get more inventive, the analysis has to be more picky, which makes analysis prone to false positives. Then changing software on our computers makes for still more problems.

When you see the error, it's possible that some basic diagnostic information might make it possible for Blogger Support to troubleshoot the problem.
  • Browser.
  • Internet connection.
  • Location - geographical and political.
  • Operating system.
  • Security devices and software.
Any, or all, of these factors might be relevant. Be as detailed as possible, when reporting your observations.

The bottom line? Be thankful that you don't see the old "403 Forbidden" error constantly.

How to make safari emulate (not really) as IE !

Why exactly that will happen ?
If a web site developer has limited resources they may only ensure that their site works with the most popular browser on the web, which is Internet Explorer. If it is an older site that has not been updated in a long time they may have assumed that only IE can render the site properly and, not wanting to have to deal with other browsers, simply prevented them from coming in.

Please note that don’t use this tip for any important, as there are many secure websites (read : bank portals) which still want you to access their portals through Internet explorer and I’ll suggest that don’t even think of trying this technique and that you should refrain from using it on such important and critical websites.

I don’t have IE – Microsoft doesn’t provide one for Mac
I understand that and I find it frustrating too, however Adam Pash has written an excellent tip where he tells you that how you can run Windows and Mac applications side by side as if they were native Apple applications (ah! just with windows looks and UI).
Apart from that you can also use free software called innotek VirtualBox and run Windows XP in a virtualized machine.

Prevent Crashing

1) Make sure you keep a note of how much memory have or RAM and you know exactly how big your hard drive is. The system actually uses some hard drive space as memory. Basically don’t want too many programs at once will system can overload and crashes start to take place. One way to make sure you aren’t using too much memory or CPU is by hitting ctrl-alt-delete and the
same time. This starts “Task Manager”. You can then decide how many simultaneous processes you can run, based on the amount of physical memory you have available.
2) Make sure you check your disk space and you have enough left. Sometimes if your screen freezes it may be an indication that you are running out of disk space. If you go to computer on your desktop and click on your C: Drive it will tell you how much space on your hard drive. You need at least 500 meg storage space free on your hard drive for your computer to run without
crashing.
3) Make sure you have anti-virus software on your computer and make sure it is updated regularly there is plenty of free anti-virus that’s some software you have to pay a subscription usually a year. Virus threats change on a daily basis so make sure the virus definition updated daily.
4) On a side note you should always back up your files are software such as partition Magic ghost where you can copy files onto other partition or copy the entire image of your hard drive onto another harddrive. Backups should
occur at least once a month. When working on important documents make sure that you have the program set on automatic save. You can set some programs to save every 10 mins like Word or Excel. So if the computer suddenly crashes you can quickly recover files on reboot.
5) It is very common operating systems need upgrading once in a while so for instance Microsoft will allow you to download patches to make the running of your computer smoother and prevent crashes.
6) Make sure you’re using the proper security settings for your PC. You need to ensure that nobody can access system settings or the registry apart from the administrator. This is because if some system settings are accidentally tampered with or hacked into, this can cause major problems.
7) Make sure you keep the drivers like the sound driver or the graphics drivers updated.
8) Make sure you keep your computer dust free especially around the CPU fan. You can prevent overheating by adding a hard drive fan or a chipset fan. Sometimes laptops can overheat therefore you can purchase laptop coolers that will prevent crashes if the laptop is switched on for a long period of time.

Should one install more RAM in computers?

I hear most of the computer users cry that there computer is running slow and isn’t as fast as it used to be. Well, there can be multiple reasons for the same, including but not limited to 1) Computers getting infected from spywares or viruses 2) Hard Disks getting full 3) RAM is low as compared to the latest software installs.
I’ve already covered quite a lot on how one can ensure that there computer can stay away from spyware & viruses, I’ve even covered on the topic that how some one can use ReadyBoost technology on Windows Vista to use pen drives as RAM, however I still say that this technology isn’t the permanent solution and one should put actual RAM on the computers.
RAM’s are pretty cheap these days, I got 4 Gb of RAM for my Apple Macbook for as low as $ 110. It has considerably improved the performance of my laptop and I know that I’m already safe for like 2-3 yrs. Of course, I’m a power user and I run more than 3-4 heavy applications at a time, thus it makes sense for me to install more RAM on my computer – the question remains though that should an average computer user install more RAM on their computers or not? I’ve tried to answer the question and here it is -
1. More RAM will ensure that your computer is future proof – Generally operating system makers (Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac) release new versions of their respective operating systems in every 2-3 yrs. and with every new release, they start acting as memory hog for your computer. So, if you’ll have more RAM, you know that with every update and release you won’t have the trouble of changing the RAM. At any given day, I would suggest at least 2 Gb of RAM if you are using Windows Vista.
2. If you start playing Games – Same is the case with PC Games! With advancement in hardware and their slashing prices, companies are trying to improve the quality of their games for better gaming experience, however that results in heavy applications that need more RAM & Video memory. If you are planning to play games on your computers then you should consider installing more RAM on your computer.
3. Run multiple applications at a time – Having more RAM allows you to utilize the multi-tasking ability of the computer systems. There are people who prefer to run light music in background while they work on their business application. I’m doing that same at this point of time, while writing the article – I’m listening to music and occasionally I’m checking my emails too. Having more RAM allows me to run all these applications at one time and no worry about my computer being slow.
In short, to improve the user experience – software companies include more features and have rich user interface and that causes the software to become memory hog and thus one needs more memory. If you think that your computer is running slow then you should consider checking it for virus and even if that doesn’t solve your problem, you should consider buying more RAM.

10 Free Alternatives of Microsoft Office Word

msoffice Over the years, Microsoft Office Word has been the best and most advanced Word processing application. However, the cost of Microsoft word can be extremely high and the small businesses may feel it as a burden. So, I’m listing the free alternatives of Microsoft Word, so that you may use it for your business or for your personal use :-

Offline Alternatives of Microsoft Office Word :
ooowriter 1. OpenOffice.org Writer : This open source software package is an overall alternative to Microsoft Office. OOo Writer is perfect replacement of Microsoft word. Bruce Byfield has done an extensive comparison between the two programs and I’m sure you’ll see that OOo Writer is no less than MS Word.
abiword 2. AbiWord : AbiWord is similar to MS Word and MS Word users will not find much problem in switching over to this free application and will certainly love it as there is nothing better than a powerful and free word processor.
3. QJot : This particular software is not as powerful as OOo Writer and AbiWord but it’s a light weight replacement of MS word. It allows you to edit the DOC files and that’s what puts it in the list of the alternatives.
4. Jarte : Jarte is another replacement of MS Word but only because it lets you edit the word files. It’s very strange looking and I would say that you won’t like this one at all, it’s user interface is one of the worst ones I’ve ever seen.
I’ll say that only OOo Writer and AbiWord are the real alternatives to MS Word and because both of those software are available for Linux and Windows alike, so you’ll find them as the perfect solution and alternative to MS Word.
Online Alternatives of Microsoft Word (everyone of them is in beta):

zoho1. Zoho Writer : The perfect alternative of MS Word when you talk about online word processor. It doesn’t have the features of complete MS Word but it gives you more than what a desktop based word processor can’t give you and that will be Collaboration with other users. It’s still in beta so you can expect some serious features in short time.
thinkfree 2. ThinkFree Writer : ThinkFree offers both online and offline versions but it’s the online one which is free. It is also a powerful online word processor and is no less than Zoho writer. It also offers collaboration and that’s what puts it at par with desktop based word processors. Again like Zoho writer, its short of features as compared to desktop based word processors but I think that most of you will do without those features.
google 3. Google Docs : This offering from Google isn’t the best at this point of time but you can’t say anything when we are talking about Google. They are the number 1 brand and everyone know why, because they are known for building great web applications. Don’t forget to check this one out.
Well, I use Zoho, Google docs and ThinkFree the most. So I’ve written what I personally feel about them. However, there are many other online MS Word processor. So, I’m just listing them with the description given by their creators.
ajaxwrite 4. Ajax Write : ajaxWrite is a web-based word processor that can read and write Microsoft Word and other standard document formats. Anytime you need to open, read or write a word processor file, simply point your FireFox browser to www.ajaxwrite.com and in seconds a full-featured program will be available for you to open, edit, print and save.
buzzword 5. Buzzword : I’d recommend you give it a good try as soon as it is available, there really isn’t a learning curve if you are using word processing apps already. I’m looking forward to seeing how Buzzword develops. If they nail those integration tasks then it will definitely become part of my bookmarks toolbar for creating and editing documents for myself or to share with colleagues. Review & opinion by Richard.
goffice 6. gOffice : No it’s not by Google but by SilverOffice Inc. Here’s what manino has to say about this MS Word alternative – ” gOffice has word processing, DTP, presentations and spreadsheets. Of course, all of them have to be very simple, which is good for 80% of the population – the rest can very well shell out $500 for their own indesign or whatever.”

What to do when you forget email password!

TipsoSaurus reader, Don Rogers has asked a question that he forgot the password of his email account which he’d setup in Outlook as it is already saved in Outlook. Now, he wants to reconfigure the account in Outlook but can’t do it as he forgot the password. Here are few things which you may try to fix up the problem :
1. Forgot password recovery : This is the simplest thing you can try and I.e. by getting in touch with the ISP or email service provider and make use of the forgot password recovery option. Or by calling the technical support, if at all they have one.
2. Using the password retrieval utilities : NirSoft provides the utility which can retrieve password from Microsoft Outlook and supports almost all the version of Microsoft Outlook even Outlook 2007. Note : Some anti-virus software may trigger false alarms against this utility but it’s safe to use it. I’ve used it personally and it works!
3. Unmask the password behind asterisks : Nucleus Technologies is providing the free utility which unmasks the password behind asterisks and that should simply solve the problem. Just open up the account settings window and it will show you the saved password.

I hope these tips will help you in recovering the saved but forgotten password and that you and Don will be able to setup the account easily in the new system. These tricks will work for most of the email clients.

4 ways of converting the docx format to doc format!

With the release of Microsoft Office 2007 came a new format DOCX. Yes, all the word documents created in Microsoft Word 2007 will be saved in DOCX format until and unless you specifically save them in DOC format using the SAVE AS format. There are few ways through which you can convert the DOCX files into DOC format, so that they can be opened using older version of Microsoft Office or may be with OpenOffice.Org :
1. Convert the file using ZamZar : You can simply go on ZamZar.com & then upload the DOCX file and then select the option of exporting it to DOC format.
2. Convert using DOCX2DOC : Another online converter and this one is specifically for converting the files from DOCX to DOC. Visit DOCX2DOC.COM
3. Compatibility pack by Microsoft : You may download the compatibility pack from Microsoft which will allow you to open, edit and save the DOCX format in the older version of MS Office.

4. Convert using the OpenOffice.org : You can also open the DOCX file in OpenOffice.org but that too with the help of the converter. You’ll need to download this extension and then only you’ll be able to convert the file. Found via thedailyblahblah blog.
So, these are the ways through which you can easily convert the DOCX documents into DOC format.
